Today, I'm thrilled to share the inspiring 12-week journey of my valued client, Erica, who joined my program, Fat Loss 101. "I felt like I needed to make a change. I was tired all the time, and felt like I wasn't living up to my body's full potential. I knew how important being active and taking care of myself now would impact my future health, and I needed help to find the right way to get started" -Erica
Weeks 1-4: Establish a Baseline & Macro Education
Our first step as a group in this was to collect a baseline on an individual level- we recorded current weight, BMI, measurements, and body fat %, With those datapoints locked in, the group stepped into the Fat Loss 101 journey with 3 rules to ensure success: 1) Maintain a caloric deficit, 2) Incorporate daily movement, and 3) Track your progress.
With these rules in mind, we leaned into learning about macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, and fats) and how to make healthy choices while eating. Yes, we did count calories in these early weeks. It's a pain, but I find it highly effective in helping clients get a feel for what foods are better nutrient-dense, low-calorie options.
Erica exemplified dedication in this phase- she logged every meal, completed every assigned workout, and tracked her progress weekly. In my weekly assessments I was always so impressed with her consistency!
Weeks 5-8: Sugar, Sleep, and Exercise
In the heart of the program, our group delved deeper into the skills we learned, and studied other aspects of life that affect our body's ability to shed fat. Some of our discussions included explorations of the profound impact of sleep quality, sugar intake, and the power of strategic exercise. My goal, as coach and trainer, was in helping participants truly understand the principles of these aspects and helping them find small steps they could take to improve in ways they found manageable and sustainable.
"I didn't have any idea where to start, and every other program I looked out just seemed overwhelming. Madison really broke everything down step by step and was so non-judgmental. I often had to modify workouts and she just kept reminding me of all I was accomplishing just by showing up."
Weeks 9-12:
The final stretch of our group's Fat Loss 101 journey included learning how hydration and stress management play pivotal roles in achieving our goals. We also introduced the principles of intuitive eating, fostering a healthy relationship with food. As a coach, I know this skill is something that can take months or even years to master, but I believe my clients had the skills necessary to dip their toes into the waters of intuitive eating. In the grand finale, we conducted a program review, celebrating our successes and setting the stage for a continued journey towards holistic well-being.
When asked what some of her favorite non-scale accomplishments of the program were, Erica replied: "I can do actual planks and push-ups. I am able to do so much more than when I started, and while I still have to make some modifications, I now know how to safely change things to still meet my goals."
